request an appointmentWhat are ceramic veneers?
Ceramic veneers are razor-thin porcelain shells that fit the front of your teeth to enhance your smile. Lashen Dental Group recommends veneers for many common aesthetic dental concerns like:
- Severely stained or discolored teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Misshapen teeth
- Worn teeth
- Small teeth
- Small chips in teeth
- Mild tooth misalignment
In most cases, veneers are well-suited for mild-to-moderate issues affecting the front of your teeth. They’re usually best for teeth in the front part of your mouth, not for molars.
How does the ceramic veneers process work?
Tooth prep is the first step. The Lashen Dental Group team removes a tiny amount of enamel from the teeth getting veneers. You’ll receive computerized local Single Tooth Anesthesia (STA™) using The Wand®, which ensures your total comfort during this process.
Then, the team uses advanced digital imaging to capture impressions and precise measurements of your teeth. This information goes to the on-site lab, where your veneers are made.
The lab can generally make your custom veneers the same day as your appointment. In rare cases, it could take up to two weeks to make your veneers. In that case, you’ll wear temporary veneers to protect your teeth and then return to Lashen Dental Group for the permanent veneer fitting.
How long will my ceramic veneers last?
It’s different for every patient, but if you take good care of your ceramic veneers, you can expect them to last 10 years or longer.
What if I’m not a good candidate for ceramic veneers?
To be a good candidate for ceramic veneers, you need sufficient healthy tooth enamel. If you’ve lost tooth enamel because of decay or erosion over time, a different type of veneers like composite bonding veneers or Vivaneers™ can still help you get the smile you want.
Neither composite bonding veneers or Vivaneers requires enamel removal, and the Lashen Dental Group team can typically apply these types of veneers in one appointment. Although composite bonding veneers and Vivaneers don’t last as long as ceramic veneers, they can be a great alternative if you’re not a good candidate for ceramic veneers.
